Saturday Group Sessions

Service Description

We offer small groups to develop skills and friendships. Children have the chance to learn from each other in a positive environment. Supervised by our Board Certified Behaviour Analyst, Bernadette Endaya, BCBA. At Guiding Light we recognize and value the influence that peers have on one another. Our groups are carefully planned so that children are working on similar individual goals and have compatible learning styles and interests. Because the nature of the group is subjective to the learners involved, we do not require a list of pre-determined group themes. We hope to collaborate with the families of the children involved to tailor the group to the actual needs of the learners and allow the group to be formed around the individuals that are taking part. Individual behaviour plans and input from the child’s therapist (when applicable) is considered when developing the structure of the sessions. A successful group should meet the needs of your child and not require them to meet the criteria of something that is too broad. We have a large family base with many talented children, there is a partner in learning and a friend for everyone! Previous groups have included topics and goals similar to the following: Sharing Conversations Playing appropriately with peers School related goals (working in a shared EA/TA setting) Academic goals (reading/letter and number recognition/attending to tasks) Groups typically run 8-12 weeks and can have 2 to 5 participants. The groups are purposely kept small to avoid missing any learning opportunities and to allow for focused teaching and attention. We work hard, but having fun is paramount. We include various theme days and activities like talk and share, games, crafts, gross motor breaks, community outings…because groups are based on the interests of the children the possibilities are literally endless.
